At Kingston Park, we believe that Geography is fundamental to our understanding and appreciation of the world .Through our teaching, we aim to inspire our children’s curiosity and fascination, develop and deepen their geographical knowledge and skills as well as promote the importance of caring for the Earth and its people. We challenge their thinking and enable our children to make rational and just decisions, thinking about their own place within the world, their values, their rights and their responsibilities to other people and the environment.

Through high quality teaching, we aim to deliver a Geography curriculum, which provides opportunities for children to

• develop contextual knowledge of the location of places, seas and oceans, including their defining physical and human characteristics.

• understand the processes that give rise to key physical and human geographical features of the world, how these are interdependent and how they bring about spatial variation and change over time. 

We also aim to ensure that children become competent in the geographical skills needed to;

• collect, analyse and communicate with a range of data gathered through experiences of fieldwork
• interpret a range of sources of geographical information, including maps, diagrams, globes, aerial photographs and Geographical Information Systems (GIS)
• communicate geographical information in a variety of ways, including through maps, numerical and quantitative skills and writing at length

We are committed to developing children's local, national and world locational knowledge.

We promote an enquiry based approach to learning and although discrete geography lessons are taught, our cross curricular approach is utilised whenever possible. We place an emphasis on using practical activities and fieldwork and value the importance of using real places, real experiences and real issues to make geography 'come alive'. Children have the opportunity to use a wide variety of resources including the outdoor environment, globes, atlases, maps, plans, aerial photos, computing equipment and software. Visits take place throughout the year and the opportunity to go on a residential field trip in Years Five and Six is available to all children .
