Piano Tuition

It has been said that while 20 % of children learn to play a musical instrument, 75% of adults wish they had!

At Kingston Park Primary School children have the opportunity to learn the piano during the school day. Children are encouraged to develop three musical skills:

  • PRACTICE – all piano students need access to a piano or keyboard at home. This is vital to allow children to learn the discipline of piano practice, building muscle dexterity and patience as step by step they learn to play each piece or master a particular scale or skill.
  • PERFORMANCE – students are encouraged to perform at assemblies, the school fair, concerts in front of their class, parents - whenever there is an opportunity! Some students sit ABRSM graded music exams where they have to learn to play and perform under the pressure of an external exam.
  • CREATIVITY – from the first lesson, students are encouraged to make up their own music, write their own songs and experiment with chord patterns.

Most importantly, the lessons are adapted to your child’s abilities and personality.

The piano is an instrument that is accessible to everyone regardless of their level of physical ability. If you have a child with additional needs, please don’t hesitate to get in touch and see if playing the piano could be for them.

Mrs Mowat gives one-to-one lessons in the Community Room for children from Year 1-Year 6. Lessons cost £9 for a 30 minute session and fees are payable at the start of each half term. So a 6 week half term would mean fees of £54. There is a £1 discount per lesson for siblings of those already taking piano lessons in school.

For more information or to put your child’s name on the waiting list, please contact Lucy Mowat on 0752 6690 353.
